Chusen is a detailed dyeing process unique to Japan. It involves a hand cut stencil, resist dying, cold water washing and then open air drying. A feature of chusen dyeing is that the same pattern appears on both the front and back of the tenugui - making the color exceptional. Because they are dyed by hand no two pieces are exactly alike.
