Bruce Botanical Food Gardens

Bruce Botanical Food Gardens

These are the photos of my visit to the Bruce Botanical Food Gardens last evening. I picked 4 varieties of mint and turned them into a wreath. I used some of the mint to make a tisane for my boyfriend Graham. My recipe is very simple – pour boiling water over clean mint leaves and stems, add a little honey and steep.

Photo Walk

My friend Julie and I went on a photo walk. We stopped at a nearby mini farm where we met this young pygmy goat. Pygmy means anything very small of it's kind. I'm in love! Photo by Julie.

Thai Sculpture
On Friday, I went on a photo walk with my friend Julie. One of our stops, a local Thai restaurant whose proprietor was kind enough to let us both come in and take photos. We had great fun!

Lavender Farm

Friend Louise and I spent the morning on a lavender farm. We enjoyed strolling the grounds, admiring the lavender, lily pond, bird houses and wind chimes. We relaxed on a well-shaded bench accompanied by an angel. Later we browsed the boutique on the century old farmstead and sipped lavender infused lemonade. Photo by Louise.

Water Lilies

M Water Gardens
My mother and I spent the morning at M Water Gardens. They specialize in growing water lilies and aquatic plants. We enjoyed exploring the outdoor ponds, greenhouse facilities and gained an appreciation for water gardening. Afterwards we went for fish and chips!

Blueberries

Blueberries
Friend Jeanette, her daughter Randi and I went blueberry picking. The bushes were bursting with ripe berries. All 3 of us sampled more than a few! I'm going to preserve some of the delicious berries.

My recipe, put clean blueberries in a pot on the stove, gently bring to a boil (lid on), add sugar to taste, simmer til desired consistency (lid off). Fill sterilized canning jars, leave about 1/2 cm space at top, cover with sterilized lids and rings, tighten, turn upside down on counter overnight.

I've been eating mine with homemade cheesecake and also in plain balkan style yogurt, divine! If you want your blueberries to 'set', add a little very finely grated apple, when you add the sugar.

John's Red Currants

John's Red Currants
Mom and I drove to family friend John W's farm. What a treat! I picked some of these spectacular red currants. They are now in a pot, on the stove and I'm researching red currant recipes.

Ten Deer Near

Deer Near
The view this morning from my living room, look closely and you'll see 10 deer. They were running, jumping and playing and then stopped long enough for me to snap this photo!
