Listen to Your Heart: A Line-a-Day Journal Review & GIVEAWAY

Live a life you love! The start of a new year is a good time for self-reflection. What better New Year's resolution than keeping a journal? I'm using the Listen to Your Heart: A Line-a-Day Journal with Prompts by Karen Salmansohn. Each page of this journal features a prompt in the form of a question. The prompt is to give you a little nudge. Questions revolve around self-care, personal growth, and success in life. Use the space provided to respond to the prompt in writing. "A line-a-day" means there's room for several words in point form - or a long sentence. The notation or format doesn't matter. Just write. There are 128 pages of prompts. Every page is different. Thought-provoking questions make it easy to respond. The questions inspire you to write - without being intimidating or overwhelming. It is undated so use it whenever you like - go in order, flip to a page that especially appeals to you, mornings, weekdays, etc. It doesn't require a big commitment - only a few minutes each time. This journal is comfortable to write in. Its pages are thick. An attached ribbon bookmarks your spot. The journal's light weight and size make it easy to carry in a purse or bag. Add a favorite pen or pencil. The visuals are lovely. The prompts are heartfelt. The whole presentation is appealing. I look forward to using it each day. Have you ever kept a journal? Treat yourself or a loved one to the power of journaling. See excerpts below. Andrews McMeel Publishing released this 136-page paperback on May 12, 2020. Get your copy below!

Birds and Botanicals Review & GIVEAWAY

Mindful drawing practice! This is the Mindful Artist: Birds and Botanicals: A meditative guide to using brush pens and ink to create birds, flowers, and more by Monika Cilmi. It's a book about practicing mindfulness while using a Japanese brush pen. A Japanese brush pen writes like a brush. Its bristles are made to copy the strokes of an authentic Japanese calligraphy brush. You'll find 16 step-by-step projects to practice meditative drawing. Subjects are a mix of birds and flowers, examples include a humming bird, crane and fuchsia. All projects are named after a mindful teaching like Joy, Letting Go, Kindness etc. The goal of each drawing is to focus on the creative process without worrying about the results. There is suggested breath work before you begin each drawing. Close your eyes and take 3 deep breaths with your empty paper in front of you. Next follow the guided thinking exercise. You are asked to meditate on a given theme and draw. Large illustrations demonstrate the elegant brush strokes and drawing techniques. They are mostly in black ink, though there is some use of color. Text is kept to a minimum. All tools and materials are listed at the beginning of each project. It's a short list of pen and paper, mostly Japanese brush pens and high-quality heavy paper. Exact brands are shared, for example, she favors Canson heavyweight cartridge paper. See excerpts and the complete table of contents below. Mindful Origami Review & GIVEAWAY

Two mindful activities - one portable kit! This is the Mindful Origami Paper pack plus 64-page book by Mari Ono. It comes complete with an instruction booklet and a whopping 250 sheets of 15 cm (6 inch) square paper. Step-by-step instructions guide you through 15 paper folding projects. I love the selection! So far I've folded the card holder, balloon box, trinkets tray, spheres, gift box and chocolate box. Instructions are shown via a series of step-by-step photos with text and symbols. All folds and symbols are reviewed at the beginning of the booklet. Each model has a difficulty rating of 1 to 3. This specially designed paper pack features 60 sheets to color. Before folding, color to your taste with pencil crayon or marker. The remainder of the paper has either an attractive pattern or solid color on one side. There are multiples of each design, which is nice for sharing or sets. I like the papers matte finish. Sheets can be torn off the paper pad as needed - which is handy for keeping things tidy. Sheets come easily and cleanly off of the pad - even from the middle. There's more than enough paper to complete all of the models in the book and then some. The complete table of contents is listed below. CICO Books released the 64 page paperback ‏on February 2, 2021. Get your copy below!

Origami for Mindfulness Review & GIVEAWAY

Two mindful activities - one book! It's Origami for Mindfulness: Color and fold your way to inner peace with these 35 calming projects by Mari Ono. Her book combines the ancient Japanese art of paper folding and coloring. It comes with 61 sheets of origami paper - including 30 to color. Before folding, color to your taste with pencil crayons or marker. The other 31 sheets are printed with an attractive pattern or solid color on one side. I like the paper's matte finish. There's more than enough paper to complete all of the models in the book. A handy vinyl envelope tucked inside the back cover holds 2 sizes of paper - 59 (6 inch) squares and 2 (6 x 6 1/4 inch) rectangular sheets. The book has step-by-step instructions for 35 origami models. I love the selection! I've folded the heart, frog, card holder, ballon and chocolate boxes. My favorite so far is the chocolate box (shown below). The book cover shows the butterfly project from page 28. All models have a level of difficulty of 1 to 3 stars. I find immersing myself in origami very relaxing. And you get the added reward of a wonderful origami creation. The complete table of contents is listed below.
