Origami Flowers and Birds Review

Start folding right away! This is the Origami Flowers and Birds Paper pack plus 64-page book by Mari Ono. It comes complete with an instruction booklet and a whopping 250 sheets of 15 cm (6 inch) square paper. Step-by-step instructions guide you through 15 paper folding projects. There are 8 bird and 7 flower models including the classic crane and lotus flower. Instructions are shown via a series of step-by-step photos with text and symbols. All folds and symbols are reviewed at the beginning of the booklet. Each model has a difficulty rating of 1 to 3. Some of the flowers are made by folding multiple similar units and then joining them together with a dab of glue. The paper pad holds 250 sheets of colorful folding paper. About 1/3 of this paper is specially designed to enhance the look of the intended model. Lively details such as eyes, beaks and feathers are printed on. The remainder of the paper has either an attractive pattern or solid color on one side. There are multiples of each design, which is nice. I like the papers matte finish. Sheets can be torn off the paper pad as needed - which is handy for keeping things tidy. Sheets come easily and cleanly off of the pad - even from the middle. There is a lot of folding, but it's satisfying folding. I found the diagram and text instructions very clear. Origami Dove Tutorial

This is an easy to make, 3d origami dove. I folded it with an 8 1/4" square, the result a 6 3/4" long dove. It makes a pretty Christmas tree ornament, simply hole punch and add ribbon, an ornament hook, craft wire or string. In between the front and back wings there is a tab where you can hide the hole punch. Diagram instructions are available at Romi's Origami. I discovered a few variations entirely by mistake.

Origami Bird Ornament

This beautiful origami bird makes the perfect Christmas tree ornament. I just love it! I made it with one square sheet of 15cm handmade Japanese paper, a clip, and a red ribbon.


The design is from The Origami Giftbox by Nick Robinson. I slightly modified the original design called First Flight by leaving out extra folds in the beak and not curling the wings. The graceful design is simple to fold. No scissors, glue or tape used!
